Deported Southerners face health crisis in Faywar Camp

A number of South Sudanese returnees in Faywar camp in Renk complained of the poor health situation in the camp. There is no help from either the government of Upper Nile or the aid organizations, residents said.

The residents of Faywar camp explained that their situation has been terrible since their arrival from Kosti, the port city to the north in Sudan’s White Nile State. They said that the mortality rate is rising continuously due to the spread of malaria, diarrheal infections and malnutrition among the children. The camp is also experiencing a shortage of medicines and necessities like tents.

Returnees at Faywar Camp had been stranded in Kosti for nearly a year waiting to be deported to South Sudan. They have now spent three months in South Sudan’s Renk County in conditions they describe as harsh.
