Deng Riek Rout wins paramount chief election in Nasir County

Traditional authorities in Nasir County in eastern Upper Nile State have chosen a new paramount chief as their leader in a hotly contested but peaceful election today.

Traditional authorities in Nasir County in eastern Upper Nile State have chosen a new paramount chief as their leader in a hotly contested but peaceful election today.

Deng Riek Rout won the election with 18 votes. The runner-up Tour Bol Would got 15 votes and the last candidate Thuok Chuatwei got 7 votes. Only executive chiefs, their deputies and sub chiefs were allowed to vote in the election.

Chuol Koryom the fourth candidate had stepped down last night.

The election as attended by the SPLA-IO deputy governor of the area, Brig-Gen. Elijah Awuol Ayei, the commissioner of Akoka Abiel Angau, Baliet Commissioner Chuol Angingi, SPLA commander Peter Ruach Wiey and the host county commissioner of Nasir Luk Mok Kueth.
