South Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Deng Alor Kuol, who hails from the disputed Abyei region, has blamed the Abyei community for not lobbying enough to determine the status of the region.

Speaking at the launch of Abyei Lawyers Network in Juba on Tuesday, Alor called on the people of Abyei to take the lead in demanding their rights with the support of outsiders.

Alor said he cannot blame the South Sudanese government because the people of Abyei have representatives in parliament as well as intellectuals who should push the Abyei agenda.

He called on the people of Abyei to unite in order to determine the final status of the disputed territory of Abyei.
