Residents living in displaced camps under UN protection in the South Sudanese capital, Juba on Friday demonstrated peacefully in support of the United Nations-authorized regional protection force.

The 4,000 regional protection force was authorized by the UN Security Council to secure Juba after cashes resumed in July last year.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, several demonstrators said they welcome the arrival of the first batch of the regional protection force, saying it demonstrates the commitment of the international community to revitalize the 2015 peace agreement.

Jeremiah Gai, a displaced person who played a leading role in the demonstration in support of the regional protection force, said they hope that the deployment of the RPF will bring about peace in the country.

He urged the international community to deploy the remaining foreign troops to South Sudan to pave the way for an inclusive peace process including the opposition led by former first vice president Riek Machar.
