Delling County authorities in Nuba Mountains call for humanitarian assistance

The local authorities in Delling County in the Sudan’s Nuba Mountains region are calling for urgent humanitarian assistance to help Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

In an interview with Radio Tamazuj at the weekend, the representative of the Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (SRRA), Abud Salim Amun, said Delling County is facing a dire humanitarian situation and called for immediate help as the situation is worsening.

He called on all the national and regional Non-Governmental Organizations to intervene.

“The war has affected the country leading to an increased number of the local population and IDPS from Delling, Habila, and Tukuma areas going without food, clean drinking water, and medicines,” he stated. “Education has also been affected and there is a large number of children who do not have access to education and health services.”

Salim attributed the grim humanitarian situation to the poor harvest last year due to poor rainfall and locusts and other insects that destroyed crops.

Delling is one of the fourteen counties in the Nuba Mountains controlled by the SPLM-North that has been affected by war and hunger.
