Unpaid civil servants in the disputed Abyei region between Sudan and South Sudan have complained of worsening living conditions amid frustration at the delay of payment of their salaries from Juba.

Workers speaking to Abyei Today at the administration premises in Abyei said that they have been waiting for their salaries for more than a week, exacerbating their househould situation.

Meanwhile, traders for their part emphasized that the salary delays affects the work of traders because of the lower spending power of the community. “It is difficult for us to bring goods”, said one.

An official within the  Abyei administration attributed the delay to financial policies in Juba, which resulted from the current political crisis in South Sudan.
