Motasim al-Hajj, a member of the defense mechanism for families of the September Incident in Sudan, has demanded the formation of a neutral committee to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Sudan’s Justice Minister Awad al-Hassan Al-Nur previously announced that the government will pay compensation to families of 86 protesters who died during protests that took place in September 2013 after the government lifted fuel subsidies.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Motasim expressed scepticism about the decision by the government to pay blood money fully to families of the victims.
“We hear about a committee for the September victims, but the body has not yet met with us and even the families of the victims,” said Motasim.
He criticized the government for trying to settle the case of the September victims as a matter of blood money only, saying justice is the priority.
