Declare state of emergency in areas experiencing encroachment, govt told

Western Bahr el-Ghazal State political analyst Joseph Lual Dario is urging the National Government to declare a state of emergency along the border areas experiencing encroachment by foreign forces.

This follows a series of reports of illegal occupation of the South Sudan territories by the element of the Ugandan People’s Defense forces (UPDF) and the Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF.

Ugandan forces have reportedly encroached on Eastern Equatoria State and Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces RSF in Raja County in Western Bahr el-Ghazal Ghazal State.

There is an illegal entry into the county by Ugandans, Kenyans, and Ethiopians and from Central African Republic, Dario told Radio Tamazuj Thursday.

“The government here is not seeking to address these in a diplomatic way or coming up with a clear strategy to protect the lands. This is a problem in the country,” said Dario.

Dario predicted that the neighboring countries would in future take control of South Sudan if no serious actions were taken.

“We are worried that these countries will take over because our leaders are not saying anything because their children are not in the country, their children are abroad. This looks like it has no impact on them,” he added.

“Am suggesting strong actions to protect our lands and resources and our people from any aggression from outside. In political science, this is early warning,” he said.

Dario urged the South Sudan leadership not to accept any negations with the countries illegally entering the South Sudan lands.
