Four children and a woman from the Ngok Dinka tribe were killed and another reported missing in an attack on Bonj village south of Abyei Area Monday morning, local leader Deng Ajang Kiir said.
Kiir told Radio Tamazuj that the group that attacked the area was well-trained. He accused the Khartoum government of supporting armed militia in the area to displace the people of Abyei forcibly.
The tribal leader further said they reported the incident to the United Nations Interim Security Forces for Abyei (UNISFA), but he expressed doubt that UNISFA will be able to trace the perpetrators.
“UNISFA is used to issuing condemnation statements only when any incident occurs,” he said.
Radio Tamazuj could not reach the Sudanese authorities to comment on the incident.
