Sudanese government security agents in the capital Khartoum have arrested a number of Darfur students at the Omdurman Islamic University after they protested a policy on release of exam results.

The university administration recently withheld the release of results of nearly 400 Darfur students, saying the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) has not yet sent their names among the list of students to be exempted from the payment of tuition fees.

Several eyewitnesses told Radio Tamazuj that security forces and students affiliated to the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) stormed the university campus and clashed with the students. They noted that several students were wounded and dozens others were arrested.

Separately, students of the Nile Valley University in Atbara organized a peaceful demonstration to condemn the killing of a student at the University of Kordofan last week.

Amnesty International had called for immediate investigation into the killing of an 18-year-old Sudanese student on Tuesday.

The body said investigation into the matter would help end violence against students in Sudan.
