Sudan will go ahead with the Darfur Referendum this year to decide whether the region will unify into one semi-autonomous state or remain as five, according to a news report by Reuters.
Darfur referendum commission head Omar Ali Gemaa told a news conference that the poll will take place April 11-13.
The referendum was called for in the 2001 Doha peace deal between the government and the Liberation and Justice Movement rebel outfit, though the Justice and Equality Movement and the Sudan Liberation Army rebels did not sign the deal.
Multiple armed and unarmed parties are boycotting the referendum.
