The Mayor of Juba City Council has announced that the Customs market will be closed on Saturday and Sunday as the Pope and other prelates meet the internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the Freedom Hall and hold mass at the Dr. John Garang Mausoleum.
Pope Francis is expected in Juba on Friday morning.
Michael Ladu Allah-Jabu revealed that other markets will remain open and traffic flow on some major roads will be temporarily closed for the movement of the Pope and other dignitaries within the city.
“The roads will be closed and opened at different times,” he said. “That market is going to be closed and even the road there is going to be closed especially at the time when the Pope is at the Dr. John Garang Mausoleum and even that gate at the Southern Part is going also to be closed. People are going to use the main gate at the parliament roundabout.”
For his part, Central Equatoria State Governor, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, said that the state government declared 2nd February a day for general cleaning.
Adil also announced that all nightclubs be closed temporarily until the ecumenical visit concludes.
“We want to say let us halt it until our visitors go, it is for the period of the visit of Pope Francis to Juba City and once the Pope goes, you can continue to enjoy but be responsible,” Adil noted.
