Cueibet County Commissioner Mayom Malek says they have arrested two suspects linked to the killing of eight people last week in Lakes State.
Eight people including women and children were reported by the Cueibet Commissioner to have been killed in a revenge attack in northern Cueibet County.
The commissioner alleged that the killers were from the Pagoor clan, who crossed a small river and killed people from Tieptiep clan in revenge for a murder of a person from Pagoor in July 2014.
Malek said: “We have arrested two people who killed 8 people including a head of the team who was leading a group of five people to launch an attack on Tieptiep Clan.”
According to the Commissioner, of the five, three were suspected of shooting during the killings. He said they arrested two and are still looking for the other.
Malek said they released at same time the father of the team leader after local sultans brought the suspects to the authorities.
The Commissioner said he the situation was difficult to manage due to tangled family rivalries, but he sent sultans close to families of the deceased to convince them not to take revenge.
“The family blamed a son for allowing his wife to go to their relatives without their knowledge and according to the family closed meeting, they have agreed to take up revenge against their Tieptiep clan who murdered their member in July last year,” Malek told Radio Tamazuj.
Malek added that they arrested a teacher involved in a motorcycle accident in which a student was killed.
