CTSAMM officer brutally killed in Wau neighborhood

A member of the opposition faction on the CTSAMM ceasefire monitoring mechanism was killed on Tuesday in the vicinity of Wau town for unclear reasons.

In a statement seen by Radio Tamazuj today, the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring Mechanism (CTSAMM) said it was informed that one of its Opposition Liaison Officers had been killed in the vicinity of Wau town on Tuesday.

“The CTSAMM family deeply saddened by this news and would like to extend condolences to the family of Lt. Col. Al Fadil Meil Issa,” partly reads the statement.

CTSAMM pointed out that it would assist the relevant authorities in the area who are investigating the incident.

For his part, Bona Gudnisio, Information Minister in Wau State, confirmed that a member of the opposition faction on the CTSAMM ceasefire monitoring mechanism had been killed in Wau.

The local official pointed out that Lt. Col. Al-Fadil Meil was found with the throat slit at Hai Jazeera near Wau town. He explained that the opposition member was killed after leaving the UN base in Wau town.

“The family has recognised the body, that man was called by someone to come out of the UN base and they went together, the family said that the victim was actually living in the UN base,” said Gudnisio.

The state ministry noted that the relevant authorities will investigate the incident, while describing the perpetrators as anti-peace elements.

Meanwhile, Mel Aleu Goc, mayor of Wau town, announced on Tuesday that they found a dead body at Hai Jazeera in Wau. “We have found a dead body in Jazeera residential area, a man was found killed with his throat slit,” said Aleu.
