Residents of Bor town in South Sudan’s Jonglei State have expressed concern over rising crime rate including night armed robbery as well as handbag snatching as they prepare for festive season.
Several local residents told Radio Tamazuj that in the recent weeks, gunmen break into their homes and demand money and other valuables.
They urged police to carry out night patrols and impose a curfew between 10 PM to 6 AM.
For his part, town police inspector, Ajang John confirmed that crimes are on the rise but said police have arrested some criminals and the situation has normalized.
“This year we have started with the group which call themselves niggers. We called their leaders and now they are with us. They were fighting among themselves and sometimes they loot people but we managed and caught them,” he said.
John said the other gang members have run to the village and others to other towns.
“We have a big arrangement, all our forces we will deploy them; the police, prisons wildlife and armed forces but armed force we use them outside the town,” he assured.
He appealed to citizens to help police fight rising crime rates during this festive season by reporting any suspicious activity.
