A 55-year-old woman was killed by unidentified gunman at her home in the town of Maridi in South Sudan’s Maridi State on Monday, police said.
Jasta Alawiya was found killed at Kazana 1 residential area.
Police said investigations into the murder of the 55-year-old woman were underway, describing the accident as “unfortunate.” They pointed out that the motive for the killing is still unknown.
Police commissioner Henry Denima sent condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
Late Alawiya was working at the state ministry of finance. She was also a member of mothers’ union at the Episcopal Church of South Sudan.
Separately, the state government issued a statement condemning the incident.
The statement, read out by state information minister Peter Saki, the government said investigations into the incident have been launched.
The state government promised to do everything possible to ensure the perpetrator is arrested to face justice.
In January, a female pastor was shot dead by unknown assailants in Maridi town. Seba Nakamis Charles was killed at her home in Hai Tarawa.
