MP expects demilitarization of Juba to reduce crime

The Head of the Specialized Committee of Defence, Security and Public Order in the National Legislative Assembly believes relocation of military personnel outside of Juba will help minimize crimes among the civil population, Radio Bakhita reported. MP Samuel Duwar Deng estimated that at least 25 percent of crimes in the city are attributed to the organized forces. He pointed out that other countries like Uganda deploy the army twenty miles away from civil populations.

Soldiers argue, shoot at each other in Jebel suburb

A soldier was wounded in a shootout in Jebel suburb of Juba on Tuesday night, according to SPLA Spokesperson Colonel Phillip Aguer. The incident happened after a misunderstanding among a group of soldiers. Eye Radio quoted Aguer as saying that three soldiers disagreed among each other and one of them started shooting.

The wounded soldier is a member of the Tiger Battalion. “If his condition improves, he will be the one to tell exactly what was happening, who shot him and why,” Aguer said. The incident caused panic among the area residents on Tuesday light.
