Two boda bodas stolen in Juba’s Gurei area
Residents in Hai Gurei were in panic on Monday evening after police opened fire in a busy market, a source said. The police were shooting at two thieves who allegedly stole two boda bodas from commercial motorists who were waiting to transport some passengers. Boda Boda is a name given to motorcycles in South Sudan and is a common transport in Juba. Many motorcycles have been targeted in the recent crime spree. The incident which forced many residents to run for their lives took place at around 7:00 p.m. “They have stolen two motorbikes,” one eyewitness said.
Two suspected drug dealers arrested in Juba
Authorities in Juba arrested drug dealers with bags of marijuana, according to an SSTV report on Monday. The criminals were arrested at Nyakoron area hiding the drugs in 18 sacks. Police spokesman in South Sudan James Monday said two suspected criminals including one male and one female both South Sudanese were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department. The drugs were believed to have come from outside Juba and were smuggled into Juba County where he said a network of criminals distributes them to other areas in Juba.
Man killed and wife injured near Gudele
Two people were killed and one injured in Hai Lokuelili near Gudele neighborhood, according to a resident from the area. The gunmen went to the house of the first victim at 11:00 p.m. calling him by his name. As they were pretending to greet him they shoot him dead, also injuring his wife in her arm. The wife had recently given birth. The wounded woman was rushed to Juba Teaching Hospital the following day. The man who was killed had allegedly been involved in a dispute with others over stolen goats. The killing occurred on 30 July. Residents in the area blamed the government of Central Equatoria for not establishing a police post in the neighborhood to prevent or reduce such crimes.
