The latest crime and crime-related news from South Sudan:

Young woman questioned over missing baby

A young woman believed to be between the ages of 20 to 22 years old was taken for questioning in Aweil town after she was found with a three-hour old newborn baby.

The baby had disappeared from the maternity ward at the Aweil state main hospital last night at 9PM and the arrest took place this morning at Ajacthok area. Aweil state main hospital director Dr. Juac Dut Wol confirmed the baby has been returned to its mother and the woman is in police custody for investigation.

“This woman entered in the hospital in cooperation with another woman, and you know we cannot differentiate who is the real patient and who is not,” said the hospital official.

Dut calls on mothers to take good care of their newborn babies in the wards, adding that the administration of the hospital in partnership with MSF-France will sit down in order to come up with some rules that minimize the flow of people into the hospital especially in the maternity wards.
