A seven-day Covid-19 vaccination campaign over the weekend commenced in Aweil East County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, and is targeting more than 20,000 people in all eight payams in the county, health officials said.

The county’s health director, Ring Yak, told Radio Tamazuj Monday that the campaign was launched last Friday and would conclude next Saturday.

“We launched the campaign on Friday last week and will conclude the coming Saturday,” he said. “This is the first large campaign in the county because previous Covid-19 vaccination drives were conducted at the hospitals but now this exercise will reach all eight payams of the county.”

Yak said they are injecting which is one jab.

He added: “The type of vaccine we are using is the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine and a client receives only one jab and our target is more than 20,000 people and it may increase.”

Some of the people who received the vaccine said they were now protected and encouraged others to embrace the campaign.

Garang Maluil said he was traveling when he met the vaccination team and decided to take the jab.

“There are many people taking the vaccine here but I was traveling when I got vaccinators working so I asked them to inject me and I have just received it on my left arm, he said.

A lady, Alek Akuei, said she had no side effects after taking the vaccine and felt fine.

“I have received the jab and it is not paining,” she said.
