Health authorities in South Sudan’s Yei River County rolled out the second Covid-19 vaccination campaign on Tuesday.

Yei River County Health Director Michael Lugala told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the vaccines from the national health ministry are aimed at vaccinating people above the age of 18 but priority will be given to those who already took their first doses.

“We started the vaccinations yesterday, and we received 17,600 doses. This vaccination is meant for 15 days for persons from 18 years and above. Currently, there is a good number of people turning up for this vaccination and we are also planning to conduct outreach vaccination for people in some of the remote Payams of Yei River County," Lugala explained.

Winnie Betty, who received her second dose, expressed happiness saying the vaccination is safe for all people.

“It is good to be vaccinated and if you are vaccinated, you are more protected than someone who is not vaccinated and exposed to high risks of contracting the Covid-19 virus. That is why people need to get vaccinated so that they are protected from contracting the Covid-19 virus in our communities,” she advised.

Yei County health officials launched the first covid-19 vaccination in June this year.
