Health authorities in South Sudan’s Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) said the second phase of the Covid-19 AstraZeneca drive is progressing well and called for more supplies to inoculate the civil population.
Achon John, Giro, the GPAA health minister, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that a large number of people has been turning out to get the jabs since the launch of the second phase of the vaccination campaign two weeks ago.
“For this second phase of vaccination, we received 52 vials containing 416 doses in Pibor County. In Pochalla County, we received 49 vials which are 392 doses while in Jebel Boma we have 32 vials which are 364 doses. The vaccination is progressing well. In Pochalla, we vaccinated 368 people, 224 for Jebel, and for Pibor all the doses are exhausted, “Achon said.
The health minister pointed out that the locals have heeded their calls for inoculation, and called on the national government to supply them with more doses.
Dr. Abdelrobu Mohamed, who serves as director-general in the GPAA health ministry, said he remained healthy since receiving his second jab two weeks ago. He called on the local population to turn out for the drive, emphasizing that the vaccine is the only tool to combat the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Cham Ochalla, a resident of Pochalla County, also echoed the call for more supplies, as they are ready to get vaccinated.
Earlier this month, South Sudan received the second consignment of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine consisting of 59,520 doses from the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) Facility.
The vaccines were reportedly deployed across the country.
