A local non-governmental organisation has conducted sensitization and awareness campaigns among the population on coronavirus and its prevention in Lainya, Morobo and Yei River counties of Central Equatoria State.
Justoson Victor, the executive director for YAMORA, a local non-governmental organization, told Radio Tamazuj last Friday that information and knowledge on the dangers of coronavirus were lacking in areas they covered.
He said the campaign mainly aimed at creating awareness on the preventive measures against the spread of the deadly disease.
“We are targeting eight locations in the rural areas of the defunct Yei River State. We have already visited Mugwo and Morobo counties, and we shall go to Mukaya-Gijira IDP [internally displaced persons] camp. We shall also go to Tore, Lasu and Kupera payams with the same preventive messages,” Justoson explained.
He added, “We want rural communities to get correct information because we have weak health systems that cannot manage big numbers of patients should this disease reach the rural areas.”
Victor said people in the rural areas remain at high risk of contracting the novel coronavirus due to poor health facilities and lack of personal preventive equipment to help combat the disease.
