A court in Bor has ruled five years imprisonment to 11 armed men for carrying out looting in Jonglei State’s capital earlier this month.
17 suspects were arrested two weeks ago in the state capital after residents complained of nighttime robberies.
Deng Mayen, Bor town resident told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the incidence of crimes has dropped since the recent arrest of the suspects.
“Yes, last weekend we have not heard of any crime related to looting again like what happened in July and now the crime of looting has reduced and we can say, they were the problem,” he said.
He said that 6 of the 17 arrested suspects have not yet been sentenced but are still being investigated.
Mayor of Bor Nhial Majak Nhial said last week that the suspected robbers are from the organized forces and they were investigating them in order to find out why they abandoned their duty and turned to crime.
Meanwhile, the state Minister of Information Jody Jonglei also confirmed that he heard some suspects of crime in the town were arrested and he no more details about the arrest.
