Three members of the Sudanese Armed Forces testified for the prosecution yesterday in the case against 25 members of the Justice and Equality Movement-Peace Wing (JEM-PW) led by Bakhit Dabajo, the defense said.
Defense lawyer Maaz Mohamed Ahmed said the Kharoum North court will continue hearing the prosecution until next week. He said yesterday’s witnesses included to generals and a lieutenant.
The accused, who the case’s lead investigator previously said are from neighbouring South Sudan, face charges of undermining the constitutional system, waging war against the state, and fighting against the army in South Kordofan and South Darfur states.
JEM-PW is a former Darfur rebel group that signed peace with the government and agreed to integrate its troops into the Sudanese army. Some of their soldiers have been detained after going to Khartoum for reintegration in March.
