Court adjourns impeached Wau speaker’s case until next week

South Sudan’s constitutional court held another hearing yesterday in Juba on the case between impeached speaker of Western Bahr al Ghazal State Assembly Andrea Mayar and Governor Rizig Hassan Zachariah.

South Sudan’s constitutional court held another hearing yesterday in Juba on the case between impeached speaker of Western Bahr al Ghazal State Assembly Andrea Mayar and Governor Rizig Hassan Zachariah.

The former speaker complained that he was impeached at an extraordinary state assembly sitting that failed to meet quorum and that the governor had interfered in, contrary to the parliament’s regulations.

Agok Makur, the complainant’s defense lawyer, told Radio Tamazuj that the court has again adjourned the ruling until 8 October.

He explained that the presiding judge announced that one of the judges was absent in Wednesday’s sitting. He added the judge reportedly went to Khartoum for Eid Al Adha.

The defense lawyer hoped that the final ruling will be issued on that date.
