Court adjourns final submission in murder trial to Thursday

The High Court in Juba on Monday adjourned the final submissions by the prosecution and defense teams in a murder case against a man accused of murdering his wife to 25 May due to the absence of the prosecutor.

The High Court in Juba on Monday adjourned the final submissions by the prosecution and defense teams in a murder case against a man accused of murdering his wife to 25 May due to the absence of the prosecutor.

The accused, Simon Marial Deng, faces charges under Section 206 of the South Sudan Penal Code 2008 for stabbing his wife about 27 times to death in the Lemon Gaba suburb of Juba in October last year.

During the hearing on Monday, both the prosecution and defense teams were expected to make final submissions in court before the final judgment.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj after the adjournment, Simon Tang, the lead defense attorney, said the court decided to postpone the submission to Thursday to allow both parties to present their final submission.

“The session of today (Monday) was for final submissions by both the prosecution and defense but was adjourned to the 25 May so that the two sides can bring their final submission before the court and after that, the court will set a session for the final judgment,” Tang said.
