The Fact finding committee formed by the national Council of States visited Gok state during which the members met and held a briefing meeting with the state governor about their mission to the state.
The meeting was held at the office of the governor on Friday. The team is led by Faustino Atem Gualdit
Mathew Chol Monydhel, Gok state director of Radio at the state Ministry of Information told Radio Tamazuj that Gok state Governor, Madhang Majok Meen thanked the committee for getting their time to visit the state and verify the facts about the dispute that claimed the lives of people.
Chol added that Gok state Governor has assured his readiness to cooperate with the committee.
Last year, the National Council of States during its ordinary sitting no. 8/2016 dated Wednesday 21st December 2016 chaired by Joseph Bol Chan, Speaker of the Council of States, deliberated on the disputed areas of Ngap and Bahr Gel of the two states of Gok and Western Lakes.
After a thoroughly deliberations, the Council Business committee resolved to form a fact findings committee to go to Gok and Western Lakes states and report back within two weeks to the council of state for decision making.
The resolution of the ordinary sitting was in accordance with article 59 (g) h) of the Transitional Constitution 2011 (amended 2015) of the Republic of South Sudan read together with section 20, 21 of the Local government Act 2009, and regulations (7) (g) (h) of the Council of States conduct of Business regulations 2011(amended 2014).
