The Council of Ministers has approved the promotion of 8 bomas to payams in Yirol West, Yirol East, Rumbek East and Rumbek North counties of Lakes State.
The decision was made at the Council’s extraordinary meeting chaired by the Governor of Lakes State, Rin Tueny Mabor, following a memo presented by the minister for Local Government Chol Kuotwil Manhom on Friday.
Rin Tueny’s Abang Payam of Yirol West County took the lead with 5 bomas under Abang Payam, while Rumbek East, Yirol East and Rumbek North had one boma promoted in each.
Lakes State acting minister for Information and Communication William Koji Kirjok told Radio Tamazuj that the promotions were based on demand, the population size and the number of regional courts in the payams.
He said the Minister for Local Government’s memo proposed that some bomas be promoted to payams as per requests.
“After thorough deliberation and discussion, the Council of Ministers approved the promotion of some bomas to payams,” he said.
The minister said that under Abang Payam of Yirol West County, Benyloom Boma, Batuoi Boma, Panekar Boma, Paliet Boma and Abang bomas were promoted.
Biling Boma under Adior Payam of Yirol East County was promoted, as was Pagang Boma of Rumbek East under Paloc Payam. Pokic Boma, under Alor Payam of Rumbek North County, was also promoted.
Kirjok disclosed that there were issues raised concerning the Ger Payam headquarters.
“The Council of Ministers decided to separate the headquarters of Ger Payam from Aluakluak to Aluakluak Gat-Diim,” he said.
“At least each regional court should be given a payam and that is what happened to Rumbek North, and to Rumbek East area of Paloc Payam.”
Kirjok said the Council of Ministers would still go through the assessment and give further direction for the regions meeting the demands.
