In November 2018, the self-proclaimed billionaire was picked up from his hotel room at Kabalagala, a Kampala suburb, by people in military uniform.

Lawrence, who also calls himself “The Young Tycoon”, said the Ugandan security agency released him without charge. “I was released without charge. They kept me in a room and treated me well,” he said.

He pointed out that the Ugandan spy agency also asked about the source of his wealth. “The security officers told me not to speak to the press after my release, but I don’t care,” he said.

Lawrence Lual Malong Yor came into limelight last year when he posted a video of himself “drowning” in a pile of US dollar notes.
