A 39-year-old Congolese woman was arrested by police on Tuesday morning for being in possession of fake 100 USD note in Kapoeta Trading Centre.
The suspect identified as Manino Khemisa is a trader at Kapoeta Trading Centre.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj at Kapoeta Police Station, Manino claimed she was a victim of counterfeit criminals. “I was cheated that this is very good one hundred US Dollars equaling to seventeen thousand South Sudanese only,” she said.
Khemisa is being held under section 156 (1) of the South Sudan Penal Code Act 2008 which states that anyone who deals in counterfeits or knowingly performs any part of the process of counterfeiting any coin or note, commits an offence, and upon conviction, shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not exceeding seven years and may also be liable to a fine.
The police officer on duty declined to comment on the matter.
