Conflicting reports on fire in W. Kordofan town

A fire that broke out in Nyama in south-western Kordofan last week claimed the lives of an unknown number of people and destroyed several trucks on their way to South Sudan.

The fire last Wednesday in Nyama, which is north of Abyei, killed many civilians on the spot among them children and traders, according to Osman Sadiq Adam, one of the local traders and an eyewitness. He added that 16 trucks loaded with goods were set on fire.

According to his account, which could not be independently corroborated, the incident has affected trade via the western sector of South Kordofan to South Sudan. He said that new security tensions have prevented the crossing of traders into Mayom County of South Sudan.

Radio Tamazuj could not verify claims of arson.
