Thousands of conflict-affected people in Melut County of South Sudan’s Upper Nile state report deteriorating humanitarian conditions due to a lack of food and shelter.

Michael Alak Monyjok, one of the leaders of the Dethoma camp, told Radio Tamazuj that nearly 21,600 people are now in dire conditions after they ran out of food over the last month.

He pointed out that they were given food enough for 20 days only since early August. Alak also complained about the lack of shelter and health services, saying they travel to Maban County to seek medical care.

The camp leader called upon the relevant authorities to provide food and other humanitarian assistance to the needy people in Melut before their conditions deteriorate further.
