SOUTH KORDOFAN - 20 Aug 2013

Conditions deteriorating for more than 5,000 South Kordofan displaced

Conditions of more than 5,000 displaced people at Al Mureib, Al Mabsouta, Marhi, and Kalink in the Abassia area of Sudan’s South Kordofan are reportedly deteriorating in humanitarian and education terms.

“The displaced in these areas are suffering from a shortage of food, medicines, as well as medical care. They live in open areas without shelter or schools for their children,” a source said.

Multiple sources also confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that the conditions of the displaced are worsening amid non-existence of organisations operating in the humanitarian field. A single trained midwife is apparently the only one who provides help to hundreds of families, rendering maternal care in all these areas.

About 2,000 farmers have allegedly been banned from cultivation this season by the local authorities. They are accused of being loyal to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army North (SPLA-N).

The displaced people appealed to the government to allow the humanitarian organisations to assist them.
