The governor of South Sudan’s Warrap State Nyandeng Malek has reportedly gone for a maternity leave of over three months. The governor Malek gave birth earlier this year in Nairobi, Kenya, prompting critics to grumble about her absence.

State Information and Communications Minister Paul Dhel Gum told Al Maugif newspaper that the governor’s time away has not affected government activities.

“Those who criticize the absence of the governor should know that absence of the governor for more than three months will not affect the workflow in the state,” he said.

The minister said the security situation is calm and stable in Warrap and the government is carrying out its work as normal.

“It is a small group that was claiming the absence of the governor will negatively affect the work in the state,” he said.
