The Commissioner of Pochalla North County in South Sudan’s Boma State Okedi Ongok says there is lack of basic services in his county, especially healthcare centres and water sources.
Speaking on Radio Tamazuj’s With the Commissioners program, Okedi said the county is also facing acute shortage of medicines, besides the poor roads in the area.
The local official pointed out that the International Medical Corps organization that operates the hospital is planning to stop its project by August.
“We have a problem, the government does not have budget,” said Okedi. “Some health workers are working as volunteers and the IMC organization that runs the hospital in Pochalla South and North has notified me that it is planning to leave by August, because it is the end of its program,” he added.
The local official said that the existing health facility treats malaria and typhoid diseases only. Okedi pointed to lack of medicines for HIV/AIDS, saying its prevalence is very high in Pochalla North and Pochalla South counties.
