A company has announced plans to start flying passengers between Juba and Agok twice a week. It would be the first private operator to provide such a service if the plans go ahead.

Abyei Today newsletter reports that the “Orpeiz” firm wants to begin flights every Friday and Sunday, and will open an office in Agok next week.

Its plane would take up to 18 passengers at a time, for a one‐way fee of around 1000 SSP. The company also carries out money transfers.

Meanwhile, some traders in Aniet market in Abyei say they will soon run out of essential goods. Two traders, Issa Suliman and Umda Mohammed, told Abyei Today they were running out of commodities such as sugar, wheat flour, cooking oil and onions more quickly than usual.

They said traders might not be able to bring in new stock because of high prices in Juba and Wau, and poor road conditions.

In a similar development, customers in Aniet market may soon also be facing a shortage of beef for sale. The chairperson of the Abyei cattle herders, Dieir Nyok Pajol, said insecurity in Unity State had prevented cattle raised there being transported to Agok. He said there could be a shortage of meat in the coming weeks.
