The traffic police in Lakes State have confirmed that they detained the driver of a commuter vehicle in Mingkaman in Awerial County following an accident that left one dead and 13 others injured on Tuesday.

The detained driver identified as Lui Emmanuel Machock was transporting passengers from Yirol to Juba when his vehicle overturned in the Guolyar area of Awerial County.

The traffic police investigator in Rumbek, Peter Makoi, told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday that the police arrested and detained the Machok in Mingkaman following the accident.

“I can confirm that there was an accident when a vehicle overturned in Guolyar and killed one passenger identified as Mager Machok and 13 other passengers were injured. Now the car and the driver, Lui Emmanuel Majok, are detained in Awerial County for investigation,” Makoi said.

He said most of the passengers who sustained injuries are receiving treatment in the Awerial County hospital and added that the driver will be sent to court for trial after investigations are completed.

Bol Deng Dau, the medical officer in charge of Mingkaman Hospital confirmed that they were treating 6 of the passengers who sustained injuries.

“Our health facility received one person who died and we are treating 6 people who sustained injuries but one person with the critical injuries has been referred to Yirol Hospital,” Dr. Dau said.
