A new community radio station, Amadi FM 93.8, has been set up in Mundri County of Western Equatoria State by Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) with support from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, Station Manager Eluzai Billy Samson said the new radio station which has been testing on air for the last two weeks, covers 40 square miles, and operates from 7 am to 8 pm.
“This community radio was provided by CEPO with support from UNESCO to help the community,” Billy Samson said. “They brought it and installed for us and now the community has to run it.”
Billy said all the workers at the new radio station are volunteers and appealed to well-wishers to help in supporting it “for my people of greater Mundri I appeal to you to come together and support this radio which is yours. Everyone can make a small contribution like fuel and other things.”
The listeners of the Amadi FM appreciated the initiative to support the communities of Mundri County.
Gibson Dame said he is happy with the radio because it has been helping them in getting information and urged the management to increase the programming to a full-time 24hours.
“I thank God and those who have brought us the radio. It has helped us the communities of Amadi because before we were not getting information from outside but now we are getting information and it is like a light for us because things we now follow market trends.” Gibson Dame said.
Another listener, Rose Miniala, said they are blessed to have the radio in their county because it provides them with local, national, and international news.
“This radio has helped especially women. We are now getting information about women, Education, and how to care for our children. We can just stay home and get the information” Miniala said.
