Community radio in Pochalla County appeals for support

Pochalla FM, a community radio station operating on the frequency 88.0 in Pochalla County of Boma State has appealed for support from other media organizations.

Pochalla FM, a community radio station operating on the frequency 88.0 in Pochalla County of Boma State has appealed for support from other media organizations.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, the station’s managing director Othow Okoti said the community radio has operated for a year without trained staff.

“The radio has been operating normally since March 20. But our problem is that those operating the radio station have not received journalism training. We also lack computers and the studio was built using local materials,” Othow explained.

“We appeal to media houses and organizations to support us,” he added.

Othow said the station covers Ajwara, Otallo, Pochalla, Burator, Otigo and Adongo counties as well as parts of Ethiopia’s Gambella region.

The community radio station was a donation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through its VISTAS program in March 2019.
