Community meets Governor Lobong over bridge collapse

The Panyikwara community of Magwi County in Eastern Equatoria State on Friday met Governor Louis Lobong Lojore over the collapse of the Owiny Kibul – Atebi Bridge.

The meeting discussed the effects of the bridge’s collapse on the access to farms, education, health facilities and security.

The community Chairperson, Angelo Mark Oringa, said the meeting was aimed at pushing the government to rehabilitate the bridge.

He said several assessments had been done by the State and the National governments, but no action taken.

Oringa explained that the local communities were unable to access their farms, health services and education due to the overflowing river that washed away the Atebi Bridge.

Eastern Equatoria State Roads and Bridges Minister Jildo Remy Abala said the Governor had directed his ministry to assess the broken bridge for intervention.

He confirmed the communities’ dire situation and assured them of the government’s commitment to resolving the crisis.

“The Governor gave directives on the assessment of that bridge. We will be able rehabilitate it and resolve the problem. The situation is not good because most of the people have been cut off services,’’ he said.
