Community leaders staying at the UN protection site in Bor town of Jonglei State have banned visits to the camp due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Anna Joseph Chan, the deputy chairperson of the camp, said the ban targets visitors and new arrivals.

“People in the camps are at high risk of the virus. So, we had to ban movement of people to and from the camp. Visitors will not be allowed and no new person will be registered until the situation changes,” Anna said.

She added, “We also banned all public gatherings and now doing a door-to-door health education on the virus”.

The community leader, however, urged the government and health agencies to start screening people for the virus across the camps.

South Sudan, which has not yet registered any case of coronavirus, is stepping up its efforts to prevent the spread of the new pandemic.
