Community leaders from the Apuk and Aguok communities have begun a peace conference sponsored by the office of the president, South Sudan peace and reconciliation commission and several NGOS operating in Warrap state.
In his opening speech, governor of Gogrial state Abraham Gum urged a frank discussion and to create a justice system.
“This peace conference should come out with a clear recommendations pertaining to cattle theft which has become so rapid. Nowadays along both communities borders it is upon you to decide the punishment for cattle theft” Gum said.
The conference was attended by prominent chiefs and politicians from Gogrial, representatives from Aweil and Wau states, the Twic governor, and representatives from different national and International NGO’s.
Leaders from the Aguok and Apuk communities pledged to reconcile their differences.
The state head of UNMISS said the lack of proper justice was a cause of communal conflicts between communities.
The peace conference will come to an end today.
