Anyuak community leaders have called on the government to evacuate four fishermen who were attacked by armed men over the weekend in Alali Payam in Akobo County, Jonglei State for better medical attention.

Dr. Akway Cham, the deputy head of the Anyuak community, told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that the four injured men are in a dire situation without any medical care.

“Four people were wounded on Saturday in a Payam called Alali of Akobo County. Armed men found our people fishing in a river and attacked them,” he said. “We have been engaging the government for their evacuation but nothing has happened so far. We appealed that they are airlifted where they can get treatment because Alali is cut off from the rest of the state.”

The community leader condemned the attack which he blamed on the youth suspected to have come from Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA).

Meanwhile, John Okey Okey, a lawmaker representing the area in the state legislative assembly, also condemned the attack and demanded that the wounded be taken treatment.

“The incident happened on Saturday afternoon. The four wounded people have fractures in their legs, and arms, and some are wounded in the abdomen,” he said. “They have been in Alali without any medical attention since Saturday. Our area’s road is cut off from the rest of the state and we appeal for intervention.”

For his part, Abraham Kelang, the GPAA information minister, said he was not aware of the attack.
