Diseases that commonly appear during the rainy season are on the rise among citizens in Renk town in Northern Upper Nile State, a medical official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj last week, the Medical Director of Renk Civil Hospital, Dr. Ebtihal Mohammed Nyok, said the health facility receives between 80 and 110 people on a daily basis, with most of the patients suffering from malaria, typhoid, diarrhea, skin diseases and eye problems.

She noted that the hospital faces a lot of challenges in providing services to citizens, citing the HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis sections which do not work.

Nyok pointed out that the facility lacks delivery rooms, adding that critical cases are referred to Renk Military Hospital or Paloch.

She further complained of the lack of medical staff at the hospital.

The health system in the world’s youngest nation faces growing health needs and limited resources.
