A steering committee has been sworn in to preside over the upcoming Bar Association’s elections.

A steering committee has been sworn in to preside over the upcoming Bar Association’s elections.

The committee, sworn in on Saturday, is to organize the general assembly that will conduct election for the association’s leadership.

The team is Chaired by advocate James Paulino Ladu and with advocates Dr. Yomon Santino Ladu, Madut Santino Deng, William Pour Tut, Josephine Adhet Deng, Basfila Binasto Loro and a representative from the Ministry of Justice as members.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony, James Al-tayib Jazz Berapai, President of the South Sudan Bar Association said the technical committee will independently overs see the polls.

He urged the committee to lead by example in managing the elections ahead of South Sudan’s General elections scheduled for this year. 

“You have won the trust of your colleagues in the profession and therefore from here onwards to carry out a very dynamic exercise, which will be exemplary to the professionals of the legal fraternity,” Al-tayib said.

The Bar Association President pledged to provide the necessary financial support to aid the work of the committee.

“As you all know, no assignment without money, money is everything so we are promising you that we will work hand in hand to make sure that we provide relevant resources,” Al-tayib said.

Advocate James Paulino Ladu, Chairperson of the Committee said they will develop an election calendar, which includes with registration and publication of names of Barristers registered as members of the association.   

“The Bar Association will give us the list and then we are going to publish that list on the board then after the publication other process will come and the last process will be the announcement of results,” he said.
