Commissioners’ forum opens in Aweil

The Northern Bahr el Ghazal government launched on Tuesday its first forum of county commissioners to evaluate and improve local administration within the state. The forum was organized by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the state government. John Akot, the state’s executive director for local government said “Our aim of making the commissioners’ forum is to ensure that we organize our work and also to work together to see the challenges and achievement we had for the few months since we attained independence.” UNDP aims to provide the commissioners with skills in local administration and coordination during the event in the coming days. The UN agency state representative described the event as the first of its kind in the state. He asked commissioners to carry such skills to the county and payam levels in order to provide good services to people and practice good governance in the different counties. Deputy Governor Madut Dut Yel opened the forum telling the commissioners to be committed to the program of the forum in order to release what kinds of achievement each county has seen since South Sudan gained her independence.  “It will be continuous program,” he said, referring to the commissioners’ forum. But Madut did not mention month or day for them to conduct the next forum.Photo by Radio Tamazuj: Deputy Governor Madut Dut Yel who opened the commissioners’ forum in South Sudan Hotei in Aweil.
