Authorities of Tonj South County of Warrap state are calling on cattle camp youth attacked at War Ayak locality between Tonj South and Tonj North counties to restraint and let law enforcement agencies handle the matter. Four people were killed and five injured in the attack.
On Monday War Ayak cattle camp located at the common border of Tonj South County and Tonj North County was attacked by armed bandits suspected to be from Kirik and Ruel-Bet payams in Tonj North county.
The authorities say the attacked cattle camps were kraals belonging to the Apuk Jurwiir community of Tonj South County and Nyan Lou community of Tonj North County.
Aguor Malang Aguor, the commissioner of Tonj South County told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that four people were killed and five others wounded during the attack by armed youth suspected to be from Ajak Leer and Awan Parek.
"One youth and one girl were killed from the area and two youth were also killed from Pagol, so in total they were four, four were killed and five wounded. Those five are in stable condition right now. Cattle were raided and driven away, the youth tried to follow the cattle and they were heading to Kirik side. Some cattle were recovered before entering into the territory of Kirik and the youth from Kuac Mayom Akeen helped in recovering the remaining cattle and they were brought back to Jak Payam," he said.
He added, "They also helped us to capture one of the criminals who happened to be from Ajak Leer and this criminal is now in prison. When I investigated him in the morning, I found out that they were 14 in number plus a young boy and most of them are from Ajak Leer and Ruel-bet."
The commissioner called on youth whose cattle camps were attacked to avoid revenge saying criminals will be traced since one of them is already in custody.
Efforts to reach authorities in Tonj North County for comments were unsuccessful due to a poor telephone network in the area.
