Andrew Wieu Kuac, the director of health in Aweil West County of the proposed Lol State, says that all health facilities in his county have run out of malaria drugs at a time when malaria cases have gone up.
“It is a terrible situation because what I have seen recently is alarming and this year is now far worse than previous years and 8 out of every 10 people seen at hospital are tested malaria positive and 2 or 3 deaths are recorded each month starting at the end of July to date,” he told Radio Tamazuj.
“The last malaria drugs we received from Juba were in June and are finished and there is no hope to receive another supply,” said Wieu.
Wieu said that he has requested partner NGOs such as Population Services International (PSI) to rescue the situation before it becomes worse.
He also expressed his concern about local populations living in areas with no facilities near them.
