The Ministry of Health has initiated a clean-up campaign in Abyei, saying that too much rubbish has accumulated in the market, posing a public health hazard.
The campaign, which is being carried out in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration, covered the main portions of Abyei town.
Authorities have also encouraged families to bury their dead, after reports that one family failed to bury a woman who died in a local hospital. The police were forced to bury the woman without her family’s consent to prevent the possible spread of disease.
